Recently, together with our independent tester – Simon and I had the opportunity to test the DREAM PAIRS Adventurous Summer Outdoor Sandals on the breathtaking John Muir Trail in California.
The 10-day trek allowed me to thoroughly assess the sandals’ performance in an authentic setting. I must say, they did not disappoint.
The sandals offer excellent traction, thanks to their durable rubber outsole, and the cushioned footbed provides impressive comfort and support.
One minor drawback I noticed was the initial stiffness of the straps. However, they quickly softened up and conformed to my feet after a couple of days. Additionally, the adjustable straps allow for a customized fit, making them suitable for various foot shapes and sizes.
Overall, the DREAM PAIRS Adventurous proved to be a reliable companion on the trails. Keep reading my in-depth DREAM PAIRS Adventurous Summer Outdoor Sandals review to get the full scoop on these super comfortable hiking sandals.

Things We Tested When We Reviewed DREAM PAIRS Adventurous Summer Outdoor Sandals
1. Traction
From my first days on the trail, the DREAM PAIRS sandals showed good traction, which was quite surprising for a pair that costs only $44.99.
The rubber sole with irregular grooves provided a solid grip on various surfaces, from rocky trails to slippery riverbeds, and the depth of the lugs was sufficient for most terrains, giving me confidence in each step.
While I noticed that the traction could be slightly improved on extremely muddy or wet surfaces, compared to other sandals in its class, the DREAM PAIRS sandals performed admirably.
2. Durability
In terms of durability, the DREAM PAIRS Sandals proved to be quite sturdy during my testing. The materials used in the construction, such as synthetic fabric and durable webbing, held up well to abrasion and showed minimal signs of wear even after extended use.
The stitching appeared to be of good quality and reinforced key areas, contributing to the overall durability of the sandals.
I did notice some minor fraying of the straps over time, indicating that they may not be as long-lasting as some higher-end models. But for moderate outdoor activities, the DREAM PAIRS sandal offers satisfactory durability at an affordable price point.
3. Comfort
Although they don’t feature high-end cushioning, these hiking sandals proved to be super comfortable during regular wear.
The EVA foam midsole provided good shock absorption, taking long walks and hikes enjoyable.
Additionally, the adjustable straps allowed for a customized fit that prevented discomfort or chafing.
I initially feared that there may not be enough arch support, but the DREAM PAIRS sandals addressed this with their contoured footbed design.
They worked ideally for my feet, keeping fatigued away, but since they aren’t truly designed to support high arches, hikers with this issue may need extra protection.
4. Breathability
In terms of breathability, the DREAM PAIRS Sandals performed reasonably well during my testing. The sandals feature a combination of synthetic leather and mesh panels, allowing air to circulate and prevent excessive heat buildup.
This ventilation system helped keep my feet cool and dry, even during strenuous hikes in warm weather.
Unfortunately, I did notice that the sandals retained some moisture when exposed to water, taking longer to dry compared to fully mesh shoes. If you frequently encounter wet conditions or engage in water-based activities, it’s worth considering a more water-friendly option.
Nevertheless, for general outdoor use, the breathability of the DREAM PAIRS Sandals was satisfactory.
5. Weight
The weight of the DREAM PAIRS Adventurous Summer Outdoor Sandals was another positive aspect.
At just over 1 pound per pair (depending on size), these sandals were lightweight and easy to wear for extended periods.
The lightweight design helped reduce fatigue during long hikes and provided a nice ground feel.
Some sandals can be cumbersome, but the DREAM PAIRS sandals solved this issue with their lightweight materials and construction.
On the other hand, they sacrificed a part of their stability for this feature, so from my experience with these sandals, it is better to use them mostly for light hiking and walking.
6. Waterproofing
While the DREAM PAIRS Adventurous Summer Outdoor Sandals are not specifically designed to be waterproof, they performed well in wet conditions. The quick-drying materials and generous openings allowed water to drain easily, preventing discomfort and ensuring that my feet stayed relatively dry.
However, prolonged exposure to moisture or submerging the sandals can result in water penetration, leading to discomfort and longer drying times.
If you anticipate frequent encounters with water or require sandals for water-based activities, I suggest exploring models explicitly designed for such purposes. The DREAM PAIRS Sandals are better suited for dry conditions or light outdoor use.
7. Support
The support offered by the DREAM PAIRS Adventurous Summer Outdoor Sandals was satisfactory for most outdoor activities. The contoured footbed provided adequate arch support, while the adjustable straps ensured a secure fit that prevented excessive foot movement.
But, as I have already mentioned, those with specific foot problems or who require additional support may need to supplement these sandals with inserts or orthotics.
8. Fit and Sizing
In terms of fit and sizing, the DREAM PAIRS Sandals offered a relatively true-to-size experience during my testing.
The adjustable straps were easy to customize and are designed to easily fit regular feet.
But, for individuals with wider feet, the sandals may run slightly narrow, potentially causing discomfort over extended periods.
It’s worth considering sizing up or exploring alternative models if you have wider feet.
Additionally, the sandal’s overall design may not provide the same level of ankle and heel support as traditional hiking shoes, which could impact the fit and stability of individuals with specific foot anatomy or conditions.
How Does it Compare with Other Products?
Bedrock Cairn Adventure
Currently retailing at $115, the Bedrock Cairn Adventure sandals are known for their ruggedness and durability, making them an excellent choice for demanding terrains.
Featuring a Vibram outsole, these sandals offer exceptional traction and stability on various surfaces, ensuring a secure grip while hiking or trekking.
The Cairn Adventure sandals also boast a supportive and adjustable strapping system, allowing for a personalized fit. In terms of cushioning, they offer better support and shock absorption than the DREAM Pairs model, enhancing overall comfort during prolonged use.
Conversely, since they are a cheaper alternative to Cairn, the DREAM PAIRS Sandals may not offer the same level of durability and performance, but they provide a budget-friendly alternative for casual outdoor activities.
Xero Shoes Z-Trail EV
Compared to the DREAM PAIRS Sandals, the Xero Shoes Z-Trail EV is quite different in terms of features and technologies.
Priced at $79.99, the Z-Trail EV sandals are designed for minimalists seeking a lightweight and flexible option.
They feature a thin yet durable outsole made from FeelTrue rubber, providing a barefoot-like experience while still offering decent protection.
The DREAM PAIRS Sandals, on the other hand, have a thicker and more cushioned outsole, which could be beneficial for individuals seeking additional comfort and impact absorption during longer walks or hikes.
Both sandals have adjustable strapping systems, although the Xero Shoes Z-Trail EV offers a unique webbing design that allows for a more secure fit.

Keen Newport H2
The Keen Newport H2 sandals are renowned for their protective toe caps and water-friendly features, making them ideal for water-based activities.
These more expensive sandals ($125) utilize a non-marking rubber outsole with multidirectional lugs, delivering reliable traction on various terrains.
Additionally, the Keen Newport H2 sandals incorporate a metatomical footbed design that provides arch support and cradles the natural contours of the foot.
In contrast, the DREAM PAIRS sandals may not offer the same level of toe protection or water resistance, but they compensate through good comfort and a better price.
If you prioritize water resistance and toe protection, the Keen Newport H2 would be a preferable choice, but if budget-friendly versatility is your primary concern, the DREAM PAIRS can still meet your needs.

Where DREAM PAIRS Sandals Perform Better?
DREAM PAIRS sandals are designed to perform exceptionally well in warm weather conditions, providing a comfortable and supportive experience across a variety of terrains.
These shoes are particularly well-suited for leisurely outdoor activities such as casual walks, beach outings, and light hikes on well-maintained trails.
The sandals feature a sturdy construction, ensuring durability and longevity even with regular use. Their excellent traction on dry surfaces offers stability and confidence, making them a reliable choice for urban environments and easy-to-moderate hiking trails.
Where DREAM PAIRS Sandals Fall Short in Performance?
While DREAM PAIRS Adventurous sandals offer a comfortable and lightweight option for summer adventures, they do have a few shortcomings when it comes to performance. One notable concern is the potential durability issues with the straps.
Some users have reported fraying around the strap edges after extended use, which could affect the longevity of the sandals.
Another area where these sandals may fall short is in providing adequate support for those with higher arches or specific foot problems. Although they offer decent stability and arch support for most users, individuals with unique support needs may find them lacking.
Additionally, the traction on slippery or wet surfaces might not be as reliable as some other high-performance outdoor sandals on the market. This could be a drawback for those seeking optimal grip in various conditions.
Do We Recommend It?
DREAM PAIRS is a budget shoe, but a good one. I’ve used this sandal on various terrains, from beaches to rocky trails, and found that it offers a comfortable fit, excellent breathability, and adequate traction for most conditions.
While it may not be the best choice for those with specific foot support needs or seeking exceptional durability, DREAM PAIRS Adventurous Summer Outdoor Sandals is an affordable and versatile option for casual outdoor activities and warm weather explorations.
The cushioned footbed and adjustable straps ensure all-day comfort, while the toe box protects your feet from rocks without notably affecting breathability.
FAQs
Dream Pairs is a shoe brand based in the United States. The company designs and sells various types of footwear, including sandals, boots, and sneakers. However, while Dream Pairs is headquartered in the U.S., their shoes are often manufactured in other countries, such as China, to keep costs low.
Yes, Dream Pairs shoes typically fit true to size. Moreover, the brand offers half sizes, making it easier for users between sizes to find the right fit. However, if you have wide feet, I recommend taking a second look at the measuring chart, as the sandals have a rather narrow design.
